Transforming your dining room for the Christmas season
Even if you don't want to completely redesign your dining room for the festive period, there are some small touches you can make.
Now the nights are drawing in and the weather is taking on that crisp, colder feel, you know what’s coming, Christmas! As Christams draws nearer, many people are already thinking about getting out the winter and Christmas accessories. And that includes in your dining room.
Even if you don't want to completely redesign your dining room for the festive period, there are some small touches you can make. Changes that will signal you’re getting ready or the Christmas holiday season, without going all-out with the mistletoe and baubles!
If you usually have a table runner, you’re probably sporting one with a summery feel. Or, if you don’t have one, adding one shows you’re ready for the Christmas party and family season. Red is a good option, but it doesn’t suit all room décor choices. Another not overly festive option is silver, or gold colours, or white with a sparkly trim. Of course, you can go all out and add your holly-or Christmas tree-themed runner, but saving it for the big day would keep it in good condition for longer. It also helps to ensure you can step your décor design up another notch for Christmas day!
Adding a new lighting element to your dining room is another wintry, Christmassy touch that can be subtle and still make a difference. String fairy lights can be hung on a wall. Or, you could place a few candles around the room – real or battery operated. Placing the candles in pretty holders can add another Christmas-like detail to the room, while also giving your family or entertaining dining room and cosy glow to warm everyone up as the nights feel colder.
Don’t worry, we’re not talking mistletoe! But, rather than the bright spring and summer flowers you typically opt for during the warmer seasons, why not add a few sprigs of seasonal holly, or other evergreen trees and bushes to your dining room?
The rich greens will certainly add a beautiful and seasonal colour to the room. And, it will draw the eye too, particularly if it’s a little different from our usual bold displays.
For those of you with a sideboard in your dining room that stores your best table wear, why not dress it up for Christmas? Options include one or more beautiful silver trays, a short runner or suitable mat, in a lovely jewel colour or eye-catching candles.
The trays would come in useful for serving and holding hot items, while a bright emerald or gold mat or runner would help your elegant sideboard stand out as more than just a functional piece of furniture.
Our final suggestion for showing your dining room at its Christmas season’s best, is to add new seat pads, cushions or covers to your dining chairs. It’s a small touch that won’t jump out at people immediately. But, it can help to make your chairs more comfortable as well as looking their best for the season of entertaining.
Again, sticking to festive colours:
Is a good option, but it’s entirely up to you and what would go best with the existing décor. We’re sure that no matter which option you choose, all of your guests who dine with you between now and the big day will be impressed by your thoughtful addition to your dining room.
As you can see, there are quite a few easy ways to add a delicate festive feel to your dining room. Some of them can involve decorative addition that can be stored carefully to be used each year.
